RomaniPhen e.V. is fully committed to providing a completely accessible website. We consider accessibility not only a legal obligation, but also a central responsibility to provide all users — regardless of their physical abilities or limitations — with equal access to our digital content. This statement applies to the websites romnja-power.de and romaniphen.de.

1. Compatibility status with requirements

The websites partially comply with the requirements of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) at level AA. Our website was developed with the clear goal of providing an accessible user experience that is accessible to all people, including people with disabilities.

Comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure that there are no barriers and that the site complies with legal requirements and best practice standards for accessibility, both technically and in terms of content.

2. Accessibility measures

Our commitment to accessibility goes far beyond minimum requirements. Here are some of the key measures we have taken to ensure comprehensive accessibility of the website:

• Structured content: The website is clearly and logically structured. All content is arranged in such a way that it is accessible with both a keyboard and screen readers and other assistive technologies. A clear hierarchy of headings and sections promotes readability.
• Alternative text for all media: All images, graphics and interactive elements on the website are provided with clear and concise alternative text that makes the information understandable for users with visual impairments. This ensures that no important content is lost.
• Colour contrast and visual accessibility: All text and interactive elements provide sufficient colour contrast in accordance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines. We have made a clear colour selection to ensure that the content is easily recognisable for all readers, including those with visual impairments.
• Keyboard navigation: Full navigability of the website with the keyboard is guaranteed. This means that all functions and content are accessible without mouse access — a crucial aspect for people who rely on keyboard or voice navigation.
• Accessible forms and interactivity: All forms are clearly structured and include user-friendly labels and instructions that make them easy to use for all users. Even complex interactive elements have been designed to be accessible in every respect.
• Responsive design: Our website is optimised to remain equally accessible and user-friendly on all devices — from desktops to tablets to mobile devices. This ensures barrier-free use on all platforms. 

3. Identified accessibility issues

Despite our best efforts, we are aware of the following limitations:

• YouTube videos are embedded on this website using <iframe>; the frames do not have an accessible name. Screen readers only report "frame" without context. This violates WCAG 2.1, success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role, value). The deficiency has not yet been rectified.
• We provide subtitles for embedded videos; however, not all videos are currently subtitled. Where no editorially checked subtitles are available, we activate the automatically generated YouTube subtitles as an interim solution (quality varies, errors possible). This concerns WCAG 2.1, success criterion 1.2.2 (subtitles for recorded content). We are working on providing missing and insufficient subtitles.
• On this website, font sizes are predominantly defined in pixels. This can interfere with user-side text enlargement and system-wide font presets and causes problems when enlarging by 200% in individual views. This affects WCAG 2.1, success criterion 1.4.4 (text enlargement). The deficiency has not yet been rectified.

The technical implementation of accessibility is ensured through regular and thorough checks and tests using the latest and most recognised standards and tools. Our quality assurance measures include:

• Automated testing: We use tools such as Lighthouse, Axe and WAVE to continuously test the website for barriers and ensure that all accessibility requirements are met.
• Manual testing: Our experts and users with various disabilities regularly perform manual testing to ensure that the website is accessible under real-world conditions.
• Feedback from users with disabilities: We continuously collect user feedback from people with various disabilities in order to constantly improve the website and eliminate barriers.

6. Validity and updating

This accessibility statement is reviewed regularly and updated as necessary. We are committed to ensuring that our website always complies with the latest legal requirements and best practice standards for accessibility. The last review took place on 6 November 2025.
